Quebec has a high concentration of research and development facilities, providing well-paid, high-tech careers. The military is also a major employer in the region, and manufacturing jobs can be found in the local pulp and paper mills, printers and food processors.
The city’s unemployment rate is traditionally well below the national average. Quebec City has a population of just under half a million inhabitants, with an additional 200,000 people living in the greater metropolitan area.
